The Daily Beast: Breakout Stars of 2009–Taylor and Cam made the list!
Some teen-TV fans may remember Cam as the guest character on The O.C. responsible for killing off Mischa Barton, but he’s going to be known for much more than Marissa-cide after this year. Cam has a whopping seven movies in production for 2009—and those are just the ones that have been officially announced. After his breakout role as a pale vampire in last fall’s Twilight, Cam will appear in Pandorum (a thriller about a spaceship with Dennis Quaid), Five Star Day (a coming of age story with Jena Malone), and Kid Cannabis, among others.
After originating the role of Jacob Black in the original crazy successful teen-vampires-stare-and-brood Twilight, there was talk Taylor Lautner wouldn’t be cast in the sequel. Fortunately, the director was convinced and Lautner is bulking up to play the older role in the follow-up New Moon, which will be rushed into theaters this November. Robert Pattinson, watch your back. Teen girls, get your screaming pipes ready.
The Twilight Lexicon Clears up some more casting rumors.
Turns out America Ferrera did not audition for the part of Emily, but rather America YOUNG did.
Kristen Stewart to present Oscar?
There is talk that Kristen will be presenting at the Academy Awards.
the show’s producers have decided to keep the identity of the remaining presenters under wraps this season–but not for too long! We hear from inside sources (take note, designers!) that the calls went out to Keira Knightley, Kate Beckinsale, Reese Withersoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Stewart, and Jennifer Aniston.
Taylor Lautner talks about New Moon
Now that Taylor Lautner has been confirmed for “New Moon,” I went back to my notes from my interview with the young star from the “Twilight” junket last fall in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Lautner plays Jacob Black, pal of heroine Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), in “Twilight.” In the second book, “New Moon,” Jacob begins turning into a werewolf. The transformation puts Bella between two loyalties: her boyfriend, Edward (Robert Pattinson) is a vampire, and vampires and werewolves are enemies.
Chris Weitz, who is directing the film version of “New Moon,” recently tapped Lautner for the sequel, after determining that the teen star would be convincing in the role. In “New Moon,” Jacob grows bigger and stronger as he transforms into werewolf. Lautner has been bulking up for months in preparation to play Jacob in the sequel.
“Jacob’s character gets so cool. It is so more in-depth in the rest of the series. When he turns into a werewolf it is like he has two separate personalities. When he’s himself he’s this nice outgoing guy and when he goes werewolf on you he’s super intense and Bella’s just blown away like ‘what is with this freak now,’” Lautner said in the interview.
Lautner said he was unfamiliar with Stephenie Meyer’s mega-best-selling “Twilight” books until he tried out for the role.
“I had not even heard about ‘Twilight’ until I auditioned for it and then as soon as I was cast I was like, what am I getting myself into? I was blown away and so incredibly excited,” he said.
Lautner received a great deal of support from “Twilight” fans, which undoubtedly helped him keep the role. Now, the excitement continues for the young star – and the fans who love him as Jacob.
New Moon Production Weekly–From A Twilight Mom
As a person who works in production I get these lovely news letters called Production Weekly. They list all upcoming filming projects… WELL guess what was listed… I admit I started jumping up and down. I took the phone numbers and addresses off to avoid crazy phone calls :-)

All is not well between demon-magnet Bella and Edward Cullen, her vampire Romeo. An innocent papercut at Edward’s house puts Bella in grave danger when various members of the Cullen family can barely resist their hunger at the smell of blood. The Cullens promptly leave town, afraid of endangering Edward’s beloved, and Bella sinks into an overwhelming depression. Months later, she finally emerges from her funk to rebuild her life, focusing on her friendship with besotted teen Jacob from the reservation. Bella’s unhealthy enthrallment to Edward leads her into dangerous and self-destructive behavior despite her new friends, and supernatural complications are bound to reappear. Bella’s being hunted by an evil vampire, and Jacob’s adolescent male rage turns out to be incipient lycanthropy: It seems many Quileute Indians become werewolves in thepresence of vampires, their natural enemies. There are some more articles out there about Dakota signing for New Moon. She hasn’t officially signed, but sources say she’s close.
Dakota Fanning Close to Signing New Moon Deal
“Teen star Dakota Fanning confirmed Saturday she’s close to signing to do the Mary role in the Twilight sequel New Moon which starts filming in March. Jane is the Italian Vulturi vampire and it would mark the first time Fanning would take on the role of a villain in a film.
‘It’s definitely something I look forward to doing,” said Fanning during an L. A. interview for the sci-fi film Push opening Feb. 6.
If Fanning were to sign on for New Moon — and it looks likely — it would fire up an already blazing film series based on Stepehenie Meyer’s best selling book saga. The first film in the series made over $300 million world wide. Not surprisingly, New Moon is scheduled to open in November, which is a quick turnaround.
According to insiders Fanny’s representatives will meet with the filmmakers this week but both parties are near a deal and are just working out the numbers.
Although Fanning said she’s hopeful, she’s waiting for the deal to become official before she will discuss the movie or the series, although she admitted to looking forward to working with New Moon director Chris Weitz. “We’ll see,” she said.”
During our exclusive interview I asked Dakota about the rumors that she would be playing the vampire Jane in the upcoming sequel to Twilight, New Moon.
She confirmed that she is in talks for the role and then we should have an official announcement soon. She expressed her fandom for all things Twilight and that she would love to be in the film.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. —
Will Dakota Fanning play a pint-sized vampire in the “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon?” She’s crossing her fingers.
“I think it’s too soon to tell if I’ll for sure be doing it, but it’s so great,” she told Access Hollywood on Saturday at the junket for her latest film, “Push.” “I’m a really big fan of that series and the first film and all the actors in it, so it would be wonderful.”
E! Online’s Marc Malkin reported on Thursday that Dakota was currently negotiating for the role of Jane, a member of the deadly Volturi vampires from Italy, where much of “New Moon” takes place.
Following Malkin’s report, a rep for Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access there had been talks with the actress.
“We are considering all actors that have the unique requirements for the look of Jane — Dakota being one of them,” a rep for Summit told Access.
If she does get the part, Dakota said she won’t have to spend too much time in the makeup chair.
“I don’t think they’ll have to put a lot of makeup on me,” she joked. “I’m pretty white already.”
And the 14-year-old actress added that doing the film would give her a boost with her “Twilighter” pals.
“Pretty much all my friends are pretty big fans, so it would be great,” she said.
“Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will all be reprising their roles in “New Moon,” which goes into production in March.
“Push,” also a Summit Entertainment film, is due February 6.
Check this out, its pretty cool!
People Poll: Who should play Alec?
With Dakota Fanning tapped for the role of Volturi vampire Jane in Twilight sequel New Moon, the casting of Alec, Jane’s undead twin brother, is director Chris Weitz’s next challenge.
Compared to Jane, “his hair was darker, and his lips were not as full, but he was just as lovely,” writes author Stephenie Meyer of Alec in New Moon.
Possessing the ability to numb a victim’s senses, quiet but deadly Alec could be well-played by Tom Felton, best known as Harry Potter’s foe Draco Malfoy. Some other suggestions? High School Musical’s Lucas Grabeel could follow his serious turn in Milk with an even darker one as the bloodsucker. And French actor Gaspard Ulliel of Hannibal Rising would bring a terrifying pedigree to the character, while Freddie Highmore, who sweetly stole scenes in Willy Wonka and Finding Neverland, could bring out his bad side.
As two of the Volturi’s highest-ranking guards, Alec and Jane are fearsome foes of immortal Edward and his human love Bella, to be played again in New Moon by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Dakota Fanning Adds Twilight To Her Reading List
Long before rumors began to circulate about Dakota Fanning joining the “New Moon” cast, we here at MTV News wanted to know if 14-year-old Fanning was among the teenagers obsessed with the “Twilight” series.
Fanning, of course, being the busy working actress that she is, admitted that she’d heard about the vampire-book phenomenon but hadn’t yet found time to jump on the bandwagon.
“I haven’t read them, but I have a lot of friends that read them all the time,” she told MTV News in September while promoting “The Secret Life of Bees.” “They’re so excited about the movie. When I went to Comic-Con, ‘Twilight’ was there. I have to read these books now, ’cause everybody’s reading them, and I’m sure they’re fantastic.”

America Ferrera as Emily Young?
Add America Ferrera to the long list of actresses who are supposedly up for a role in the Twilight sequel New Moon.
Following in the footsteps of Vanessa Hudgens and Dakota Fanning, the 24-year-old Ugly Betty actress has reportedly auditioned for the movie. Ferrera tried out for the part of Emily Young, fiancée to Sam Uley and second cousin to Leah Clearwater.
“I got to audition for New Moon today! For the role of Emily,” Crazy Days and Nights quotes the outspoken actress and snappy dresser as saying. “The casting director, you fans of the book will be glad to know, has read the books and loves them. And you can tell. His direction was spot on for the character. I loved the books. I would so love to be in the movie!!!”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable match. After all, Ferrera has had experience interacting with monstrous characters before.
Edi Gathegi and Barack Obama Share A Unique Thread
When Gathegi saw on the Internet that some “Twilight” fans were upset because he landed the role of Laurent, he told them that the character in the book was of olive complexion. “Listen, he retorted, ‘She [writer Stephenie Meyer] describes this character as being ‘olive-toned’ but there are many different types of olives. Black olives anyone [laughs]? Then the next day the fans read it and they became instant supporters and believers. As far as I’m concerned, black olives are the only olives in my world and the casting was perfect.”
Gathegi has a penchant for doing research before taking on a role. Before taking on his character “Twilight,” he did some studying of his own. “I did my own personal research. I was trying to—and this was never going to make it into the film because it was just too much— model parts of my character after Saint George (Monsieur de Saint-George) who was this famous black French man. He was a fencer and general of an army. He was a Renaissance man and very regal. And I thought maybe Laurent, in his human form, was like friends with this guy and that was the circle that he traveled in.”

There is now an official release date posted for the guide by Stephenie Meyer herself. (according to Barnes and Noble)
